Phil, there is also a special safety plug that you should be using on the iso transformer. Its probably part of NZ Electrical standards. Available via RS Components. If you speak with their sales staff they should be able to advise the correct one.

Ok..I'm obviously a little dense...So apologies.

Some questions:
- When you say connect the DC grounds do you mean I should connect the DC ground from the floppy to the DC ground drive of the C4?
- ... in this case, does DC ground mean the GND line (on the boards), or possible the GND, from say, the chassis (as the chassis have a grounding wire connected to them)?

I think it's time to break out the multimeter and see what grounds are connecting to what...

Sorry for the dumb questions

Philip

P.S. I'll look into the Safety plug too.

Mike,
Regarding the safety plug, are you talking about a RCD...or is it something different?

Cheers

Philip

No this is just a mains plug with a difference. Maybe it has a special safety fuse, I dont know. When I picked up my Variac from our mate at ATI he cut the plug off the cable and informed me it should have a safety plug not our standard 3 pin mains plug. I imagine the same would apply with step-down and isolation transformers but you probably only need it on the isol.

PS your closer to the hydro than me. Should be 240V ;)

Oops, you are right...240V not 220V.
Ha!

That setup is fine. I would not make any extra connections.

I did just try using some jumper wire with alligator clips connecting the cassis of the drive to the chassis of the C4, then tried making a disk again, but still no success...Error #9 on the newly made disk.

Maybe need to look elsewhere for the issue.

Cheers

SUCCESS!!!!

Not sure what changed, but now everything (read/write) seems to work perfectly...Yay!!!
Some robust testing maybe needed, but initial thoughts are that it's working fine.

Wish I knew what changed, but regardless, much thanks for all your help.

Phil

P.S. Now, with the help of Dave, lets get a Gotek up and running.
