Ok, so the board is almost complete. I decided to go with the RGBI mode only and not emulate OSI mode. I also added a configuration header for selecting sync, a "Gonbes Out" connector, and power output. There's one final double-check to do before sending the boards out.

I have created a project webpage with information and schematics etc here:

Comments and feedback are appreciated. I will update the page when board is sent out and when it arrives.

I had to fix the RGB output header.. I had it backwards...

The boards have been sent off to DirtyPCBs.com. I have ordered 12 for the first batch. They will be coming on the slow boat from china so I expect them in about 3-4 weeks.

So, here's a picture of the breadboard version with the colour write jumper fix.

The colour looks much sharper than it appears from my phone's camera.

Boards were in production today.

Here is a colour chart for 48-column mode:

Just a note about the above.. my breadboard is connected via an Amiga SCART cable which has its own resistors on the rgb lines, so the colours you see above are not optimized. The optimal values for the final pcb will need to be determined so that the normal and intense colours are more distinct.

Nice! Can't wait. Will we be able to emulate the RGB upgrade BEFORE the boards actually arrive? ;-)

I always wondered how OSI did NTSC color. It looks like the circuit relies on the slight delay of a 7404 to jab the subcarrier at the right phase to produce a color. That can't possibly work.
