Call for OSI 5.25" floppy disks

Post by nama » Wed Dec 03, 2014 9:25 pm

Hi all,
Seems I may be the only person on the planet with a working 4P + mini floppy system (although I could be wrong).
So in my endless pursuit to preserve everything before it's all gone, I'm asking if any of you have any 5.25" OSI floppies that I could 'borrow' and backup, and of course I will send everything back when done.

The actual disk copy process is simple, the problem seems to be the lack of OSI floppy disks and software that still remain in the wild. Lets save what we can..now!

Thanks for listening

Phil

And so it begins...
Erik's disks arrived today. Tonight I will attempt to back up everything to multiple sets of floppies. Unfortunately without any real (modern) backup tools, this is the best I can do at present.

Wish me luck.

Hi all,
Here is a list of the disks I received from Erik:

Aardvark
DISK CATALOG - AUG. 29 1981
GALAXIA - AUG. 8 1981
TIMETREK - SEP. 21 1981
GAMES #1 - OCT. 26 1981
FANTASTIC COPY - FEB.27 1981
C2/4 MAXI-PROS - JUL. 8 1982

OSI
OS-65D V3.3 C4P
TUTORIAL DISK 1
81-0043

OS-65D V3.3 C4P
TUTORIAL DISK 3
81-0043

OS-65D V3.3 C4P
TUTORIAL DISK 4
81-0043

OS-65D V3.2 (NMHZ)
C2-4P/24P
10/79

Problems:
I could not get past a parity error on track 15 when trying to copy DISK CATALOG. I do however think that all the important contents exist before track 15 so I am hopeful it is ok.

I could not copy the FANTASTIC COPY disk. I could not even do a directory listing on this disk. It does however seem to work. It boots into a simplistic interface which allows disk copying. However any disk I tried to copy with this software gave me an error, and it was also not able to copy itself….not so fantastic.
listening to what my disk drive is doing when booting this program, I believe the code may actually exist on track 0!!!!. The program loads almost instantly and I can’t hear any head movement to track 1 or beyond. Would love to be able to copy this, just for the sake of completeness.

Anyway, just as a tease, here is a video showing the loading of a few games from TUTORIAL DISK 1:

…ever get the feeling you're talking to yourself. Is that an echo…echo…echo...

My suspicions about FANTASTIC COPY were correct. I did a hex dump of the disk using the 'Diskread' program, and there seems to be only data on track 0. All other tracks are empty.
