Re: 560Z Build thread
I have no drives hooked up I was low on 6821's so I took them out of my interface, i'm using my serial boot file while on the bench, normally I use modified 3.5 1.44 drives instead of my 8 inch beasts that are 220v to save wear and tear on them.

Re: 560Z Build thread
Are you using 6821s in place of the 6820s on the 560Z board, then? I hadn't confirmed that they'd work as replacements -- they usually do, I couldn't see why they wouldn't in this case, but I didn't want to order 100x 6821s just to find out they don't work here!

Very nice. Do you have any ROM on the Z80 side at present ?

no rom but I have a 64k module so I just load the rom code into ram where needed.MK14HAK wrote:Very nice. Do you have any ROM on the Z80 side at present ?

01.10 Where to from here Grant?
01.20 Do you intend using paper tape I/O
01.30 Z80 ROM - I have a couple of Z80 monitors that could be adapted or recode 65A ?
01.40 6820/1 's, Z80s here but no I6100. Any of the TTL hard to find? Some spares would be handy if they are.
01.50 How about a " Hello World " .... from Focal.

Re: 560Z Build thread
I can port the Glitch Works Monitor for the 560Z's Z80, once I get the 560Z up and going, if anyone is interested in that.
I've got parts for kits on the way -- all TTL, Motorola 6821s, Z80s, and a very few IM-6100s. Should have a price on the basic kit soon.
Tonight, I set the Challenger III up and plugged in the 560Z. I just have the PIA sections built up, as recommended in the manuals. Looks like everything works so far, except I may be getting "inverted" data at the PIA outputs. I'm going to take a look at it in the morning when I'm not tired, as the ROM monitor reads the values off the ports in the correct sense. Might just be having a derp moment

Re: 560Z Build thread
I put together a spreadsheet this morning while the test suite for $day_job is running. How's a $50 parts kit sound? That of course doesn't include a Z80 or IM-6100. It would include:
- All TTL ICs
- 8T26 and 8T95 bus drivers (I probably have enough 8T28s to sub if you use a positive data bus)
- 4x Motorola MC6821 PIAs
- Sockets for 8T26s, PIAs, and CPUs
- 2x NOS Mallory TAS-M tantalums for main power bus decoupling
- Handful of axial MLCC caps for bypass
- Misc. resistors, capacitors, diodes
- 8x NOS Molex KK-156 sockets for MOS and SYS bus connections
That's with US-made machine pin sockets, I can get them from China for significantly less, but it might knock $10 off the kit price. Add $5 if you need a Z80. I haven't gotten to the point of testing my handful of IM-6100s -- have to finish the 560Z build first

Re: 560Z Build thread
PIA circuits confirmed working, I must've been doing something wrong last night. I can read and write to PIA ports! Onto the porthole...
EDIT: Well, that's on hold, apparently I don't have a single 74125! Looks like they'll be in this week though. Think I"m going to build a 12-bit RAM board and maybe put a switch and lamp register on it.
