New doc scans...

Post by geneb »

I scanned these today and I didn't see them on your main osiweb.org page, so I figured I'd post links here so you could grab them if you didn't actually have them:

https://archive.org/details/OSI_6500_Ed ... ers_Manual
https://archive.org/details/OSI_Extende ... ers_Manual
You've got this one, but it lacks the front & back pages:
https://archive.org/details/65V_Monitor_ROM_Primer

You have this one as well, but I scanned my copy at 600dpi in the hopes it would improve the readability of the listings:
https://archive.org/details/OSI_Small_S ... rnal_Jumbo. I'm not sure if it improves on what you've already got.

These docs are part of a larger collection that included a 4P. If there's any more docs, disks, tapes, etc. for OSI systems, I'll make sure you folks are notified.

Obligatory 4P porn: https://imgur.com/gKyudHK, https://imgur.com/PzLHeoc :D (Since I know absolutely nothing about the 4P at this point, I was wondering - is typical to see all the chassis knockouts populated like this? It appears to have three 16 pin dip sockets, a pair of DB25 connectors and four DE9 connectors. I've not opened the system up so I have no clue what all that is for. It does appear to have a hacked-in RF modulator of some kind hanging out the back.

tnx!

Congratulations on your acquisitions!

The populated back panel is a standard feature on the C4PMF with 505CPU board. It's known as the A15 interface board. The two DB-25s are configured for a serial modem and printer, both of which connect to the same 6850 ACIA internally. The DB-9s are configured for two joysticks and two keypads which interface with the OSI keyboard. The 16pin dip sockets are part of an OSI expansion system. Some are wired to decoded address space for external "Head End Cards", some to bits on a PIA for experimenting or home security interface.

Enjoy

Thanks!

As I process the collection, I'll post a note on the forum here when any OSI documentation turns up.

Do you know if IMD will create good images from OSI disks?

tnx.

The OSI floppy disk format is simply a serial (port) bit stream written with FM encoding on the disk. This format is not used on any other system that I am aware of. If the IMD can read RAW FM bit streams then it should work, but if it expects standard PC compatible formats then it will not.

So far we've had luck with kryoflux and greaseweazle disk dumps converted to HFE used with the FlashFloppy/Gotek disk emulator. Otherwise the OSI Raw Disk Dump software can transfer disk contents from the OSI via serial port which can be converted back into disk images later.

Thanks for your contributions!

I was completely unaware of the Greaseweazel, I'll have to check that out, thanks! (I wouldn't touch a Kryoflux for any amount of money - the company is utterly reprehensible in what they think they can tell you what you can do with hardware you own.)

I do want to get an Applesauce as it does much more than just Apple II disks now, but they're currently unobtainium. :(

Thanks for the scans! I'll grab them over the weekend and place them in the repository.
