Re: UK101 Restoration
Hi Bill, Mike. I went over to the 'Centre for Computing History' in Cambridge a couple of years ago. There were several documents that I was interested in for my AIM-65 (since sold). When I asked if I could purchase copies of some of these, either as photocopies, scans or as a pdf, I was told that t...

Re: UK101 Restoration
Hi Guys, Thanks for the encouragement and useful suggestions. Now that the UK101 is working again, I'll have to dig out the external memory board that I purchased second hand in 1982. I have no idea if it works, or what it was based on. It has a label on it marked 'SMART 2', but without a manufactur...

Re: UK101 Resoration
Hi Bill, Mike, Yes, once it completes a full reset, I choose 'C' for a cold start and can run BASIC. Unfortunately some of the key presses give occasional incorrect characters. UPDATE..... Scoping the inputs to the 2 74125's gives some unexpected variations in amplitude of the key scan waveforms. Fu...

Re: UK101 Resoration
Hi Jeff, The fault is still as posted in my second post. That is as follows:- Switch the unit on, and I get the usual screen full of misc characters. Press the reset keys, and sometimes I will end up at the 'boot screen' with the startup message, sometimes the computer refuses to acknowledge the res...

Re: Monitor ROMs
Hi all, Would it be possible to use a 2716 or similar onboard as a minimalistic 'boot' rom. With a module plugged into the expansion socket, and some suitable code and a little hardware (programmable latch or similar) to bank switch 1 of several different rom images held in something like a 27128. T...

Re: UK101 Resoration
Hi everyone, a further update. In order to narrow down the problem with my UK101, i have removed every IC on the board, cleaned the IC legs, cleaned and re-tensioned any sockets where the contacts seemed poor, refitted the IC's and retested. Regretably the fault is still present. Time to try a diffe...

Re: UK101 Resoration
@MK14HAK. The board looks in remarkably good condition for its age, no corrosion or damaged tracks that are visible. @bxdanny. I have supplied Steve Gray with a pdf of the full wemon installation and instruction book, he is going to try and reduce the file size when he returns from his vacation, and...

Re: UK101 Resoration
Update. I have now removed all of the previous modifications to the pcb returning it to its original condition, cleaned all of the IC legs, found and fitted the original MONUK02 rom after checking it's contents were still correct using an arduino mega. The ROM appears to be a 9316 or similar device,...

UK101 Resoration
As mentioned in my introduction, over the coming weeks I intend to restore my Compukit UK101 to working order if possible, it may take a long time as I have other ongoing projects. The UK101 was packed up and put into storage in the mid 1980's in fully working condition, and has not been seen for so...

New UK member restoring a Compukit UK01.
Hello Dave and everyone, New to forums, so please excuse any faux pas I may make. In late 1979, I purchased a Compukit UK101 in (incomplete) kit form from a UK retailer Comp Shop in New Barnet. The computer kit arrived very well packed in a cardboard box, and I spent many happy hours assembling it. ...
