Re: restoring a second OSI
Another update: I don't have an 11.79648 Xtal, but I do have a 12.000. I gently placed the legs of the 12.000 Xtal agains the legs of the Xtal soldered to the board and the screen jumped to life. A thin strip of compressed random characters on the left side of the screen, Maybe 10 columns in total. ...

Re: restoring a second OSI
Quick update: Naturally I suspect the crystal. I'm not sure it it's possible to check a crystal with a logic probe, but I did anyway. I looked at the non-working board. One leg is high with no pulse, the other shows nothing at all. I then looked at the working board. One leg seems to show pulsing hi...

restoring a second OSI
I recently received another OSI machine. This time a C4P. After my success with the C4-2P I'm confident I can get this working. Firstly I tackled the CPU board. As I had a complete set of working boards, I just swapped the new board into the working system. Here is what I have found so far: - CPU di...

Re: New data separator and motor control card
Great!
It sounds like you've revamped the circuit quite a lot. Unfortunately your link to the file seems to be dead, so I can't see what you have done.
I'm excited to see the changes, and excited to see this project progress.
Thanks
Phil

Re: Aluminum brazing
You can see how the fix is progressing here: case1.jpg case2.jpg case4.jpg Not as easy as I thought it was going to be, but regardless, I'm making some good progress. All braze has now been ground down using a hand grinder (what a lifesaver. I couldn't imagine doing it by hand as the braze is much h...

Re: Aluminum brazing
My understanding is that HTS2000 is basically the same as other aluminum brazing rods that are available.

Aluminum brazing
So the brazing rods arrived yesterday and today I had a chance to try it out. braze.jpg Some observations: - It's very hot. Don't be fooled into thinking you are dealing with solder temperature even though it looks identical when molten. - After the braze cools it can leave very sharp burs which can...

Agreed. I would have been totally lost (and I'd imagine many others too) if it wasn't for this site.
