Re: DOS not booting

MK14HAK, Did you ever get your system to boot from a disk, which is the issue that started this thread? I am impressed that you were able to get the OS running from a "serialed" copy, without booting it from a disk. Did you try writing out the tracks/sectors of the disk you want to use from within t...

Re: DOS not booting

Dave, I think it's the signal marked KD7 on the bottom right of sheet 1. It connects to the 8T26 on the bottom left of sheet 4. Yes, it took a while to figure that out. Anyway, as Klyball pointed out (or rather quoted from), it is mentioned in the description of the 540 on Mark's site, and it is a s...

Re: DOS not booting

Thanks Klyball! I didn't realize, or had forgotten, that Mark's site had that much detail on all the boards. So the signal we were talking about is related to the vertical sync, not the horizontal, but is a squarewave.

Re: DOS not booting

Dave,

I no longer have the 540 schematics. If you want, email them to me or attach them to a PM. What I would look for would be something attached to data bus bit 7 only, and not the whole bus, or look at the sync signals and see what they are connected to.

Re: DOS not booting

Dave, The disk images in the ZIP file attached to this message show what I am talking about. The one called "OS-65D v3.2 (NMHZ)" is (I think) the standard version of that OS. The one called "EdSec5" is the version I modified. (BTW, is .ZIP the ONLY extension that is allowed to be posted here?) Writi...

Re: DOS not booting

MK/HAK: I reread your message and it sounds like you might not have the proper track start or sector start codes on your disk or image. From the OS-65D 3.0 manual: TRACK FORMATTING -------------------------------- THE REMAINING TRACKS ARE FORMATTED AS FOLLOWS : - 1 MILLISECOND DELAY AFTER THE INDEX ...

Re: DOS not booting

MK (or is it HAK?), it sounds like you know what you are doing, so I will let you be. Good luck. Dave, the code I was talking about is on track 1 and loads to $2E79 (the track loads starting at $2A00). Look at the standard version, it has LDA $DE00 instructions, followed by BMI or BPL, it is looking...

Re: DOS not booting

The standard OSI 5.25" versions of 65D for the C2/C4 look for a signal from the 540 board for timing information - specifically, to bit 7 of $DE00, which I think reflects the horizontal sync of the 540 video signal. But the code that looks at that is loaded from track one, it loads into the director...

Re: DOS not booting

Huh? You obviously have a working drive you can boot from if you are able to test the one in question with CAll commands, etc. Can you be a little more specific about the setup, and what you can and can't do?

Too bad you gave up on the 8" drives. What software did you have for them?

Re: Rawdump diskread

We are using 510 serial systems so I would change Line 40 to PRINT#1 Wouldn't you need to use a different port for the dumping than the one that is used for the console? If you are capturing the same output stream that goes to the console, you would need to know just where the dump starts (I guess ...
