Hi Folks,

I'm new to the board, but have a question regarding the C1PMF floppy drive. From the 610 board schematic it appears as though the drive has in no way a standard floppy interface. Is this assumption correct?

Is this also true for drives that attach to the other OSI controllers (470, 505)?

Yes, that is correct.
A typical setup would have a paddle board attached to the 470, 505 etc. The Paddle board then connects to a drive. The drive typically includes a data splitter (e.g. OSI implementation of the MPI 51) to separate the clock and the data signals, however there has been some work by members of this board to separate the data splitter from the drive so standard (non data split) drives can be used as a replacement. There is also some effort being put into making new paddle board designs too...stay tuned.

That's to bad. It would have been nice if they were standard. I wonder how complicated it would have been for them to use a standard pin-out floppy.

610, 470 and 505 boards are hard enough to come by, let alone the special drives and paddle boards.

I'd like to see a new paddle board that worked with a standard floppy. With some ingenuity the OSI FD controllers would be fairly simple to build using more modern chips.

Well stay tuned as there may soon be an integrated data splitter+ paddle board that will allow you to used standard 8" or 5.25" floppies.
